The E6013 welding rod is the best to stick weld thin mild steel and is known as a sheet metal rod. An E6013 has a flux covering with high amounts of rutile. Rutile creates the smoothest arc with light penetration that won’t burn through the joint as easily as other rods.

I also used solid wire and rf-litze with internal 30 or 40 conductors and I could not find a difference in detecting-range. What I found was that the solid-wired coils where finally heavier In my metal detector, the search coil is key for detecting metal. It has two parts: the transmit coil and the receive coil. The transmit coil, made of copper wire, creates a magnetic field that reacts with metal objects underground.
